You will then explore the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater, a natural wildlife sanctuary where you have excellent opportunities to encounter a wide variety of animals, including lions, elephants, buffalo, zebras, wildebeest and, with luck, black rhino.

On the final day, you will visit Lake Manyara National Park, known for its scenic landscapes, diverse birdlife, elephants, giraffes, buffalo and seasonal concentrations of flamingos. After your game drive, you will return to Arusha before continuing to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your onward flight.

Day 1: Arusha – Tarangire National Park

After breakfast, your safari guide will pick you up from your hotel in Arusha and drive to Tarangire National Park, famous for its large elephant herds, ancient baobab trees and diverse wildlife.

Enjoy a full-day game drive exploring the park. Depending on the season, you may see elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, buffalo, lions and many species of birds.

After the game drive, continue to your lodge/camp in the Karatu or Ngorongoro area for dinner and overnight.

Expert Insight

If I had limited time in Tanzania and were creating the safari for myself, I would be comfortable choosing this 3-day itinerary. It gives you a good introduction to the Northern Safari Circuit by combining Tarangire, Ngorongoro and Lake Manyara without making the safari feel too rushed.

However, if the Serengeti is a priority, I would recommend taking a different approach rather than trying to add it to these three parks. With limited time, you can fly in and out of the Serengeti and spend two nights there, focusing the entire safari on the Serengeti instead of adding Tarangire, Ngorongoro and Lake Manyara.

This option gives you more time for game drives and allows you to experience the Serengeti at a slower pace, rather than spending a significant part of a short safari on long road transfers.

My approach would therefore be simple:

Limited time + variety: Tarangire, Ngorongoro and Lake Manyara
Limited time + Serengeti priority: Fly in and out, spend 2 nights in the Serengeti, and focus entirely on the park.
